Course modules
- Module 1 – Introducing Managing Safely: importance of managing safely; legal responsibilities; benefits of good health and safety management; key terms and concepts.
- Module 2 – Assessing Risks: understanding hazards and risks; the risk assessment process; likelihood and consequence; risk-rating systems.
- Module 3 – Controlling Risks: hierarchy of control; selecting appropriate control measures; practical risk control examples.
- Module 4 – Understanding Responsibilities: legal framework (employer and employee duties); accountability and responsibility; the role of managers and supervisors.
- Module 5 – Common Hazards: a range of workplace hazards, including mechanical and electrical hazards; fire and manual handling; slips, trips and falls; chemical and biological hazards; display screen equipment; psychosocial risks; environmental factors.
- Module 6 – Investigating Incidents: why incidents happen; the investigation process; root cause analysis; corrective and preventive actions.
- Module 7 – Measuring Performance: active and reactive monitoring; key performance indicators (KPIs); audits and inspections; continuous improvement.
Assessment
- Multiple-choice exam conducted online
- Practical risk assessment task submitted after the course
