Course modules
- Module 1 – Introducing Working Safely: importance of health and safety; personal responsibilities; key definitions: hazard, risk, control.
- Module 2 – Defining Hazards and Risks: types of hazards (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial); assessing risks; simple risk assessment techniques.
- Module 3 – Identifying Common Workplace Hazards: real-life examples covering fire hazards; electricity; manual handling; slips, trips and falls; noise and vibration; chemicals and hazardous substances; work at height; tools and machinery; housekeeping and environment.
- Module 4 – Improving Safety Performance: safety signs and signals; PPE usage and limitations; safe systems of work; emergency procedures; reporting unsafe conditions; the role of safety culture.
